THE BAND

Since the early 1980s, the Westside Sound Big Band has played at events and dances in the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area of New Mexico . The band is a fourteen-piece classic Glenn Miller-style Big Band, which includes:

• five saxophones,
• three trombones,
• three trumpets,
• keyboard,
• bass,
• drums,
• and a vocalist.

 We rehearse together three to four times per month, and the band has done so for over 30 years. As a result, we sound smooth and polished, and together.

WHAT WE PLAY

We have a large repertoire of over 200 standard Swing, Jazz, Latin, Polka, Dixieland, Blues, early Rock ‘n Roll, show-tunes and popular favorites. The band features jazz standards from the Swing Era, such as:

• Harry James’ “Two O’Clock Jump.”
• Woody Herman’s “Woodchopper’s Ball,”
• In The Mood,
• Sing, Sing, Sing,
• String of Pearls, and
• Moonlight Serenade.

We feature vocalist Judy Boren on a variety of numbers, such as:

• Judy Garland’s “You Made Me Love You (I Didn’t Want to Do It),”
• Frank Sinatra’s “Almost Like Being In Love”
• New York,
• Blue Moon, and
• Route 66.

Our Latin selections include cha-cha, rumba, tango, & samba numbers, such as:

• Artie Shaw’s “Begin the Beguine,”
• “Spanish Eyes,” 
• Besame Mucho,
• Cha, Cha for Judy,
• Blue Tango, and
• The Girl from Ipanema.

Rock n’ Roll numbers include, such as:

• “Kansas City,”
• Rock Around the Clock,
• Louie, Louie,
• Bandstand Boogie,
• Medleys of 50s hits.

Dixieland selections include, especially:

• South Rampart Street Parade,
• When the Saints Go Marching In,
• Embraceable You,
• Royal Garden Blues.

Polkas and other music including:

• “Pennsylvania Polka” & “Beer Barrel Polka,”
• Oktoberfest’s “Polka Medley,”
• “Hawaiian Medley,”
• Independence Day – “Armed Forces Salute,”
• “Drums Must Never Stop” – Bass Solo.

LOCATION

Located in the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area of New Mexico, the band is available for concerts, dances, weddings, anniversaries and other special occasions, where the host desires the incredible energy of “live” music in the Big Band style.

Band members come from all over the Albuquerque metro area, including Rio Rancho, Sandia Park, and Tijeras, as well as Albuquerque.
